On Holy Ground was under consideration at Berkley Books when the studio cancelled its contract with the publisher, leaving only three "official" Forever Knight tie-in novels in print. In 2000, On Holy Ground was privately published (with full acknowledgment of the Sohnee Empire's copyright) as a non-profit fanzine fundraiser for three charities, including the Humane Society.
After raising several hundred dollars for these organizations over a six-month period, however, On Holy Ground was abruptly pulled out of circulation. Why?
The ugly truth is that the book fell victim to petty vengeance. It was pulled because a nasty, bitter old harpy with a grudge against the author (utterly groundless to begin with, but happened over 30 years ago: oh for God's sake, Madame Harpy, get a life already) got her claws on one of our flyers, and spitefully mailed it to the Evil Empire's legal department. Result: an injunction that shut down the novel's sales, costing the charities what might have been thousands of dollars in donations.
So On Holy Ground has been unavailable ever since, though the occasional rare copy has turned up on eBay. (One of these sold for over $300.00!) Sad to say, little or none of that money ever benefited our charities, either.
But here, at long, long last, is Forever Knight: On Holy Ground in a paperless, entirely free on-line edition. I hope you enjoy it. I also hope you'll consider sending a generous donation to your local Humane Society or Animal Rescue Service so as to honor, in some small way, the book's original fundraising purpose.
Thanks so much!
