Drama
Aired 1963-1967
Primary Characters
Dr. Richard Kimble -- A pediatrician falsely
convicted for the murder of his wife.
Lt. Phil Gerard -- The police detective
obsessed with Kimble's capture.
Premise
Innocent of the crime for which he was convicted
and sentenced to death, Richard Kimble escapes execution when a train wreck
frees him en route to the death house. He embarks on a desperate
search for the one-armed man he saw running from the house on the night
of his wife's murder. Lt. Gerard, meanwhile, relentlessly pursues
Kimble across the country, convinced that the one-armed man is nothing
more than the phantom creation of Kimble's imagination.
The final episode of The Fugitive, in which
Kimble at long last caught up with the elusive one-armed man, set a record
in its time for capturing the highest ratings of any single TV episode.
(Very few have surpassed it since.) The blockbuster Harrison Ford/Tommy
Lee Jones film of the same name was based on the TV series.
